Alfamail VISI Drives Efficiency for a Sustainable Future

 Zeewolde Wind Farm is the largest onshore wind farm in the Netherlands and the largest civilian wind farm in the world. The wind farm is a 100% citizen-led initiative, founded by residents and landowners. Participation was grounded in equality, granting all stakeholders identical rights, with agricultural entrepreneurs comprising the majority of shareholders. To date, over 90% of residents – approximately 300 individuals – have contributed the required funds for development, making it both a fully community-driven and hyperlocal endeavor.

The project 

One of the largest onshore wind projects in the Netherlands, involved the construction of 83 wind turbines under 3 separate contracts: Civil (Design & Construct), Substation (Design & Construct), and WTG (Plant and Design-Build). The project demanded rigorous coordination, document control, and process automation to ensure timely delivery and compliance. 

Overcoming complexity through automation and collaboration 

The Zeewolde Wind Farm project faced significant complexity due to its scale and structure: managing 3 distinct contracts, fragmented workflows, and the absence of automation for critical processes. Ensuring traceability across 83 wind turbines and coordinating multiple contractors demanded rigorous document control and transparency. Technical challenges, such as urgent issues during construction and occasional software bugs, further strained resources. Additionally, the need to hand over a well-organized system to the operations team post-construction required foresight in design and data management. 

Tailored solutions for operational clarity 

Alfamail VISI was implemented to automate document management, streamline workflows, and enhance collaboration. The system provided customizable metadata, clear reporting, and adaptable processes tailored to the project’s needs. Key improvements included the introduction of “invisible transactions” to eliminate data noise, unified frameworks for contractor communication, and optimized approval workflows. The software’s ability to integrate contractual and operational processes ensured a seamless handover structure. Despite challenges, the project team leveraged VISI’s flexibility and TECHNIA’s responsive support to maintain momentum and address urgent technical challenges efficiently.
