The <\/span>Nieuwe<\/span> Sluis<\/span> (<\/span>New Lock<\/span>)<\/span> Terneuzen<\/span> is a major infrastructur<\/span>al<\/span> project designed to enhance maritime access from the <\/span>Westerschelde<\/span> to the <\/span>canal from <\/span>Ghent<\/span> to <\/span>Terneuzen<\/span>, <\/span>facilitating<\/span> pass<\/span> for larger sea vessels up to 366 meters in length, <\/span>forty-nine<\/span> meters in width, and 14.5 meters in depth. The lock measures 427 meters in length, <\/span>fifty-five<\/span> meters in width, and 16.44 meters in depth, comparable to the locks of the Panama Canal. Its construction aims to boost economic activities in both the <\/span>Zeeuws<\/span>-Vlaanderen and Flemish regions by improving access to the ports of <\/span>Terneuzen<\/span> and Ghent. Additionally, the increased <\/span>capacity<\/span> of the lock reduces waiting times for inland vessels. The project is commissioned by the Flemish-Dutch Scheldt Commission and executed by the <\/span>Sassevaart<\/span> consortium.
